OTTAWA (Nov. 17, 2024) - The Carleton Ravens women's basketball team flexed their defensive muscle over the weekend beating Algoma at home before downing the Brock Badgers 76-49 on Sunday afternoon.
The Ravens started the weekend with a classic Carleton performance, holding the Algoma Thunderbirds to only 8 points in the second half of an 81-33 win on Friday. Jacqueline Urban had a double-double in just 22 minutes while Kyana-Jade Poulin, Teresa Donato and rookie Nathalie Francis all had double-digit points.
The Ravens' 22 rebound advantage and 12 steals were crucial setting the tone for a 22-5 points off turnovers advantage and a dominate 40-18 points in the paint performance.
The Ravens strong defensive play continued on Sunday afternoon when they faced a talented Brock Badgers team. Opening the afternoon with a 12-3 run, the Ravens quickly found themselves in a battle. The Badgers never backed down and kept the game within single digits for the majority of the afternoon before Carleton extended the lead to 19.
Dorcas Buisa (Gatineau, Que.) was a standout for the Ravens early in the afternoon scoring nine points in the opening quarter to help the visitors get their offense started. Jacqueline Urban kept the Ravens going in the second half, scoring 9 points and pulling in 6 rebounds as Carleton outscored Brock 21-14 in the third quarter.
It was a challenging shooting night for the Ravens, shooting just 8-24 at the free-throw line.
From Coach Dani Sinclair
"It was a great defensive effort against a very good Brock team," said coach Dani Sinclair after the game. In classic Ravens style, as the last undefeated team in the OUA, Sinclair stressed there's still work to be done. "Now we need to get back in the gym and practice our layups and free throws."
Carleton returns home on Friday night to host Guelph before hosting McMaster on Saturday night as part of the Ravens Varsity Council Toy Drive Night - featuring a Teddy Bear Toss during the men's game.
Tickets for both nights are on sale now.
