OTTAWA (Nov. 3, 2024) - The Carleton Ravens women's basketball team continued to find their form this season earning a pair of wins against Waterloo and Laurier. The Ravens looked comfortable at the PAC in Waterloo on Friday winning 67-52 before grinding out a 76-73 win against Laurier Saturday.
The Ravens' early season three-headed monster of Jacqueline Urban, Kyana-Jade Poulin and Teresa Donato was impressive again on Friday combining for 48 of the Ravens 67 points. It was even scoring in the first quarter as six Ravens got in on the scoring while slowly pulling ahead.
Teresa Donato's 2-3 shooting from beyond the arc led the Ravens in the second but ball management was an issue for the Ravens, turning over the ball 9 times in the quarter. The third only got more difficult for the Ravens as they lost the battle on the glass and Waterloo turned 11 rebounds into a 22-18 quarter.
Carleton showed glimpses of their feared defensive system in the fourth holding Waterloo to 2-16 shooting and just five points in the quarter.
Carleton looked to have carried the momentum into Saturday, outscoring Laurier 24-14 in the first quarter, but a veteran Golden Hawks team wasn't ready to back down. Laurier would outscore Carleton in each of the final three quarters but couldn't fully erase the ten-point deficit.
The Golden Hawks cut the lead to two late in the fourth, but that would be as close as the Ravens would get as Tatyanna Burke stole the ball from Dylann Mazzuchin to seal the win.
"We need to find a way to play more as a team," admitted Ravens coach Dani Sinclair. "We need to be better at both ends of the floor, with more toughness and communication on defence."
