OTTAWA - After the wheels fell off on Friday night in the second period against Ontario Tech, the Carleton Ravens responded with grit on Saturday beating the Queen's Gaels 3-2 in a shootout.
On Friday, Ontario Tech scored five times on just 9 shots in the second period as the Ravens found themselves behind 5-1 after forty minutes. While they battled hard to work their way back into the match-up, two goals in the third period from Hayden Serniuk and Julia Mumford cut the deficit to four, but the Ridgebacks matched Carleton shot for shot to hold the lead.
The Ravens were a far improved squad on Saturday afternoon in Kingston. "Tonight's game was overall a better performance," said Ravens coach Stacey Colarossi. Despite falling behind six minutes in, Carleton took a 2-1 lead with goals from Shae Laprade and Payton Miller. The Gaels wouldn't let the lead last long, just 39 seconds later Mikayla Craney scored to tie it up at two after twenty.
The game would remain tied through the next two periods. In overtime, the Ravens had the best chance to secure a victory when Mikayla Cranney went to the box for holding, but Carleton's powerplay couldn't gain much traction and the game was off to a shootout.
Kaitlyn Langille bounced back on Saturday afternoon for the Ravens stopping 34 of 36 shots faced for her fourth win of the season. Langille's 310 saves and .917 save percentage lead all rookie goalies in the OUA.
The Ravens will play at home on Friday night when they welcome the Windsor Lancers to the Ice House for their last on-campus home game of 2024.
