Just as the seasons pull to a stop for the holiday break, things continue to ramp up for the high performance staff at Carleton Athletics. Over the next six weeks, Nick Westcott, Nadine Smith and Stacey Colarossi will all trade in their Ravens crests for the maple leaf.
Westcott is the first to head out, the Strength & Conditioning Coach for the Hockey Canada National Women's Development Team. Westcott spent part of early December in Finland where Canada picked up silver, losing to the Americans in the Euro Hockey Tour final. A familiar face with the women's development program, Westcott was working with a roster of NCAA players aged 18-22 who are the up-and-coming stars in Canadian women's hockey.
Colarossi will keep things on the ice as a Canadian women's hockey team staff member at the upcoming FISU Games in Torino, Italy. Colarossi joined Laurier's Kelly Paton bench as they look to defend gold after Canada came home victorious in 2023. It will be a third appearance at the FISU Games for Stacey, having earned gold in Turkey in 2011 and silver in Russia in 2019.
Since her two stops with FISU, Colarossi has spent time on another international bench, serving as a coach for China at the 2022 Olympic Games. Team Canada will open its schedule on Saturday, January 11, against Chinese Taipei before facing Great Britain and Slovakia in round-robin play.
Torino will also mark Nadine Smith’s fifth FISU Games, and second as Chief Therapist. Celebrating 25 years at Carleton, the newly appointed Assistant Manager of Athletic Therapy is excited for another trip to the games.
“I am looking forward to working with this fantastic team of medical professionals. We are going to provide the best care and give every Canadian athlete an opportunity to perform to their optimum. - Nadine Smith

Smith represented Team Canada at both the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games and the 2024 Paris Paralympic games this past summer. Bringing her international experiences back to her work at Carleton, Smith is able to provide care to Carleton student-athletes, while being a mentor for other women in sport.
