OTTAWA (Nov. 30, 2024) - The Carleton Ravens women's basketball team improved to 10-0 on Saturday night with an 82-37 victory over Lakehead.
The Ravens opened on an 8-3 run before the Thunderwolves fought back. After Sidney Crawford made it a three-point game, Noelle Kilbreath (Calgary, Alta.) gave the Ravens some breathing room with a deep three. Two minutes would tick off the clock before the next points were scored when Nathalie Francia hit a pair from the line. Tatyanna Burke would end the Ravens' 0-5 shooting slump after almost three minutes without a field goal before going on a run of her own to finish the first quarter with a game-high 9 points.
Carleton slowed the pace in the second quarter while continuing to shoot 40% from the field, the Ravens extended the lead by only 2 pulling ahead to a 38-24 halftime lead.
Coming out with what coach Dani Sinclair called "a good defensive performance in the second half," Carleton found its rhythm in the third quarter and pulled away from its hosts. Tatyanna Burke had 7 points in the quarter while adding two assists, as Kyana-Jade Poulin and Jacqueline Urban began to find their rhythm in their return to the roster.
For the Ravens, the second half was more about establishing their defensive play than it was scoring. They smothered the Thunderwolves, holding them to 14.3% shooting in the third quarter and 6.3% in the fourth. Carleton's defensive pressure allowed only 13 points in the final twenty minutes to spread the lead.
Five Ravens scored double-digit points while ten different Ravens factored into the scoring. Zerina Duvnjak had a strong offensive showing off the bench scoring 11 points and recording 6 assists.
Carleton returns to action on Wednesday night when they host the Ottawa Gee-Gees at the Nest. It's Red Night as Carleton fans are encouraged to pack the Nest red for this rivalry game.
Special limited edition red t-shirts will also be on sale at the game while supplies last.
