OTTAWA (Jan. 19, 2025) - The Carleton Ravens women's basketball team continues to find their form as they continued the second half of their season on the road over the weekend. The Ravens were successful in back-to-back nights picking up 69-42 and 70-54 wins over Nipissing and Laurentian.
The Ravens came out firing in the first quarter shooting 47.1% from the field without even attempting a three. The Lakers, eager to hang with the Ravens, also came out shooting over 40% but couldn't continue Carleton inside and found themselves in foul trouble, sending Carleton to the line eight times.
The Ravens continued to pound the ball inside in the second quarter and wore down their hosts outscoring the Lakers 23-11 in the quarter. By the end of the night, Carleton would score 56 points in the paint outscoring the Lakers by 34 inside. Tatyanna Burke (Winona, Ont.) stood out for the Ravens Friday, scoring 28 points and collecting eight of Carleton's 51 rebounds. Noelle Kilbreath, Kyana-Jade Poulin and Jacqueline Urban also scored in double digits while rookies Abany Deng and Nathalie Francis combined for 14 points and 14 rebounds.
On Saturday, the Ravens defensive pressure was on full display as they held Laurentian to 16 points in the second half. The Voyageurs were 6-15 from the field in the first quarter as they kept within two, but Emilie Lafond cooled down after scoring 7 points in the first and there was no second option as Carleton extended the lead to ten by the half.
Kyana-Jade Poulin (Montreal, Que.) led the way in the first half with 11 points while Kilbreath added seven more. Dorcas Buisa scored ten points in the third quarter as Carleton added fourteen to their lead. Four Ravens finished the game in double digit points including Jacqueline Urban. It was Jacqueline's fourth double-double in the last seven games.
Carleton return home on Friday night when they welcome Laurentian to the Nest. Nipissing will visit on Saturday night.
