OTTAWA (Jan. 24, 2025) – The Carleton Ravens men’s basketball team built a 10 point lead in the first quarter and never surrendered the advantage beating the visiting Laurentian Voyageurs 83-55.
The Ravens weathered a fast-paced start from the Voyageurs in the first quarter to find themselves ahead 10 at the break. Carleton was red hot from downtown in the first half with MJ Okado (Calgary, Alta.), Xavier Spencer (Edmonton, Alta.) and Daniel Smith (Winnipeg, Man.) all hitting multiple threes as Carleton ran to a the lead 10 point first quarter lead.
Shawn Berthelemy and Ismael Konate worked to keep the evening close for Laurentian, but despite combining for 18 points on 6-13 shooting, they found themselves behind by 18 at the break.
Carleton continued to build up the lead extending it to 26 midway through the third quarter with Okado putting up 8 points in the quarter. Carleton showed a few different looks to the Voyageurs in the second half, really challenging the Voyageurs offense. Carleton held Laurentian to just 30.6% shooting on the night while the Ravens bench scored 37 points led by MJ Okado and his team-high 22 points.
With a strong lead and a short bench, the Ravens looked to their rookies with Domac Domac, AJ Osman, Jordan Horobetz-Simpson and Marcus Hollingsworth all player 7 or more minutes. Aubrey-Dorey-Havens led the team in minutes, but played only 30 minutes putting up 6 points while recording a team-high 9 assists.
The Ravens were without the services of Nelson Cilien, Jacob Knight, Augustas Brazdeikis and To Randriasalama, the first pair out with illness while the latter group are recovering from injuries.
