Carleton Ravens Nordic skiers Helen McCulligh and Sophia Giangrande will represent Canada at the Torino 2025 FISU World University Games. U SPORTS and Nordique Canada announced the roster on December 23 ahead of this month’s competition in Torino, Italy.
McCulligh, who nearly qualified for the last games left nothing up to chance, with qualifying performances at the West and East regional qualifiers in December. "I am very proud and excited to represent Canada at the upcoming FISU games in Italy," said McCulligh. "I’ve been working towards this since I first joined the Carleton ski team in 2022. I am hoping to put together some solid races and learn how to race on the international stage!”
The third-year from Ottawa has excelled with the Ravens over her first two years helping the team to capture two OUA championships and a CCUNC national title.
Giangrande is in her first season with the Ravens, joining the illustrious women’s program from Whitehorse, Yukon. The first-year Health Sciences student finished ninth in the open Classic Sprint and 10km Classic races and was seventh among CCUNC racers in the 7.5km free at the Candy Cane Cup in December.
Giangrande is ready for her opportunity on the international stage: “Qualifying for the FISU Games in Turin, Italy, is such a honour for me, I can’t wait to represent Canada and Carleton on the world stage.”
The two Ravens represent Canada at the historic CCS Centre in Pragelato Plan – home of the 2006 Olympic Games. Nordic competitions will take place Nordic competitions begin on Wednesday, January 15 and run through the end of the games on January 23, 2025.
