The Carleton Ravens men's basketball split their opening weekend of 2025 with a convincing 86-59 win over Toronto on Friday followed by a difficult 13-point loss at TMU on Saturday night.
The Ravens opened with a 30-16 first quarter on Friday night on the back of 66.7% shooting and 8 points from Jacob Knight. Carleton was on fire from three, making four of six attempts while also controlling the inside with a 9-5 rebound advantage. Toronto battled back in the second, outscoring Carleton 18-15 as Inaki Alvarez hit a pair of threes and the Ravens shooting cooled to 33.3%.
The Ravens slowly found their form in the second half, narrowly outscoring Toronto in the third before powering through the fourth quarter with a 23-9 advantage. After shaking off some cold shooting in the middle quarters nine different Ravens scored in the fourth as 11 of 12 players in the line-up recorded points in the win.
A tougher test was on schedule for Carleton on Saturday when they faced a rested and waiting TMU Bold. Carleton and the Bold went shot for shot in the opening twenty minutes with TMU leading by three at the break.
The Ravens shooting would go ice cold out of the break, at just 11%, Carleton struggled and found themselves behind by 11 after thirty minutes. While the defense kept things tight holding Aaron Rhooms to five points in the third, it wasn't enough. In the fourth Carleton never quit but they could only trade chances with the Bold who added two more points to their lead as Gabriel Gutsmore scored 10 points and Javier Gilgeous-Glasgow added 8 of his game-high 22.
Carleton is back in action this weekend when they head north to face Nipissing and Laurentian.
