OTTAWA (Jan. 27, 2025) - The Carleton Ravens found themselves behind early and could not overcome a 5-1 deficit falling 6-4 to the Brock Badgers on Sunday afternoon.
After a thrilling third-period win in Guelph on Saturday night the Ravens failed to carry over any momentum into Sunday's contest giving up the opening goal just 4:11 in. Carleton would respond quickly with the rookie combo of Felix Bedard and Gio Morneau hooking up on the power play. Morneau's first of the afternoon moved him into a tie with Bedard for the conference rookie goal-scoring lead.
The level scoreline didn't hold for long, as Holden Rogers scored his fourteenth of the season less than two minutes later and Jacob Hoffrogge scored on the power play with Alexandre Hogue in the box and a delayed penalty on the way. The Ravens would kill off the next penalty and head into the break trailing 3-1.
Things only got worse for Carleton in the second when Jordan Stock picked off a pass in the neutral zone and scored on a shorthanded breakaway before Tyson Greenway made it 5-1 two minutes later.
Alex Johnston cut into the lead for the Ravens midway through the period when he directed a pass from Hogue into the top corner. The Ravens would rally from there, scoring again on the power play early in the third to make it a two-goal game. Just as it seemed the Ravens were back in it, Ethan Sims scored midway through the period to extend the lead to 6-3.
The third period devolved into a physical affair as Carleton looked to claw back at the lead. Morneau would add his rookie leading fourteenth of the season on the power play, passing Bedard who drew an assist. Down two with 1:08 to play Carleton could draw no closer.
The Ravens return home for a critical series on Saturday and Sunday when they host the Toronto Varsity Blues and the Gee-Gees. Sunday's contest against Ottawa will be the final Toonie Sunday game of the regular season with all student tickets priced at just $2.
