OTTAWA (Jan. 24, 2025) – The Carleton Ravens improved to 16-0 on Friday night with a 69-48 win over the visiting Laurentian Voyageurs.
The Ravens started with an 11-0 opening run with Tatyanna Burke scoring 5 points in the opening minutes. The lead was enough for Carleton to hold off a late push from Emilie Lafond and the Voyageurs and lead 17-13 at the break.
Laurentian would rally behind six points from Lafond and sharp shooting from Megan Axiak to take an 18-17 lead early in the second before Carleton settled. The combo of Axiak and Lafond would keep the Ravens on their toes.
Kyana-Jade Poulin (Montreal, Que.) helped Carleton keep up their momentum in the second. Poulin and fellow Quebecer Dorcas Buisa were the motors for Carleton in the second as Carleton continued to work their way to the line. After hitting a pair at the line midway through the second, Buisa made a falling pass to Nathalie Francis (North Vancouver, BC) who nailed a midrange jumper over the crowd to stretch the lead to four. Carleton would build from there and at the half led 42-29.
Tatyanna Burke led all Ravens at the break with 11 points and 5 rebounds while Lafond led all players with 12 and 7.
The Ravens opened the second on an 11-2 run to start the third and then went to work on defence causing turnover after turnover as they stretched the lead to 21. The Ravens forced 12 second-half turnovers as they used their pressure to put away the Voyageurs.
Forcing 30 turnovers on the evening, Carleton outscored Laurentian in the turnover margin by 5 and in the paint by 12.
