OTTAWA (January 25, 2025) - The Carleton Ravens improved to 17-0 on Saturday night with a 72-57 win over the Nipissing Lakers.
Both teams would trade points throughout the quarter with Nipissing making the most of their opportunities at the line, turning early Ravens foul trouble into five points at the line. Despite strong offensive play from Dorcas Buisa (Gatineau, Que.) and Tatyanna Burke (Winona, Ont.) slashing through the paint to create their own scoring opportunities – the Ravens foul trouble saw them trailing 23-19 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter took a decisively more defensive turn as scoring cool off at both ends. Kyana-Jade Poulin (Montreal, Que.) stayed hot for the Ravens from deep, scoring a pair of triples to put Carleton back up two with 4:30 to play in the quarter. This would kickstart a Ravens 14-0 run.
A Teresa Donato (Ottawa, Ont.) jumper from the charity stripe extended the lead before Jacqueline Urban (Ancaster, Ont.) stole a lakers pass into the paint and went coast-to-coast for the layup. When all was said and done, the Ravens had outscored Nipissing 19-6 in the quarter and led 38-29 at the half.
The Ravens offense remained explosive in the third with Poulin and Donato continuing to be hot. Defensively, the Ravens looked even tougher inside with Abany Deng (Calgary, Alta.) delivering a huge block late in the quarter – one of her two blocks for the evening.
The Ravens would continue to pull away in the fourth, adding four points to their lead and locking up the victory.
Kyana-Jade Poulin led all Ravens with 20 points and 8 rebounds. Jacqueline Urban had 9 points and 14 rebounds while Tatyanna Burke had a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds.
