North Bay, Ontario (Jan. 24, 2025) - The Carleton Ravens women's hockey team suffered their worst loss of the season on Friday night, losing 8-0 at the hands of the Nipissing Lakers.
The first period opened rather unassumingly with both teams trading chances it what was a mostly a defensive opening frame until a loose puck rolled to Aki Fujiumori at the side of the net and she chipped it over a sprawling Kaitlyn Langille for the early lead. The goal came just 11 seconds after the Ravens had killed off a Aoife Mahaffy penalty. Despite a disruptive forecheck after the goal a pair of penalties saw the Ravens continue to trail 1-0 after 20 minutes.
A turnover on the penalty kill to start the second period would end with Jill Hennesy banging home the rebound to make it 2-0 Lakers. Nipissing would score again just two minutes later with Taylor Yeo burying another rebound before another Hennessy shot blooped over the head of Langille to make it 4-0 Lakers just 4:02 into the second.
A goalie change did little to help the Ravens as Hennessy waltzed through a pair of defenders before beating Ella Grad – who entered the game in relief of Langille. Grad would allow another goal before being removed from the game with Langille returning after 5:29. Nipissing would add one with six seconds to play in the frame and lead 7-0 after two.
The Lakers would outshoot the Ravens 10-3 in the third while finishing off the evening with an eighth goal.
