Ottawa (Jan. 13, 2025) - The Ravens women's basketball team extended their 2024-25 winning streak to 12 over the weekend picking up a pair of wins over Toronto and TMU.
A dominant first quarter saw the Ravens open up the second half of their schedule with a 29-6 lead after ten minutes. Kyana-Jade Poulin and Teresa Donato each had 7 points as Carleton looked to find their for in their return to competitive action. Holding Toronto to 2-17 shooting and forcing 9 turnovers, the Ravens defense didn't appear to have missed a beat.
Foul trouble and improved Varsity Blues shooting saw Carleton's lead tighten in the second quarter, but 12 points from veteran Jacqueline Urban (Ancaster, Ont.) was enough to keep Carleton ahead.
Urban never slowed down, posting a career high 26 points on the night, the third-year guard and 2023 U SPORTS rookie of the year was fantastic at both ends of the court. By the time the night was through, Urban had recorded 5 rebounds - 4 on the defensive end - 3 steals and 26 points in only 20 minutes. Carleton would cruise to an 86-59 victory.
The Ravens depth would prove important on Saturday as they headed across town to face a TMU team who was rested, having not played Friday.
The Ravens built an 8 point lead over the Bold despite only shooting 36.8% in the opening frame. The board were able to give Carleton trouble inside, out rebound them 10-8, but gave away key points with 11 first quarter turnovers. Jacqueline Urban continued her strong play for the Ravens scoring 10 points in the opening frame on route to a game high 23. The middle two quarters were a tight back-and-forth battle with Carleton barely extending their lead before both defenses took over in the fourth.
Carleton's shooting went ice cold while TMU also struggled with their consistency - the two teams combining for just five field goals - as only 16 combined points were scored in the final quarter. Despite the struggles, the Ravens would hold on for the 63-56 win to wrap up the weekend.
