OTTAWA (Feb. 2, 2025) - After suffering a buzzer-beater loss to the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on Friday night, the Carleton Ravens bounced back in a big way on Saturday beating the Queen's Gaels 92-72.
On Friday, a back-and-forth game saw wild lead swings come down to the final minutes. After Carleton trailed by three at the half, they jumped into a 9-point lead after three only for the game to come down to the final minutes.
The Ravens would miss two chances to put away the Ridgebacks in the final seconds of the night before their catalyst Zubair Seyed stepped up in the clutch and nailed a floater at the buzzer to walk off with the win.
Daniel Smith led the Ravens with 18 points including 4 threes while also hauling in 11 rebounds. Seyed led all scorers with 21 points and added 6 rebounds.
The Ravens were in a dogfight on Saturday night as the Gaels came out the gate in a full-court press. Carleton's solution to the pressure was the three ball, and they didn't miss much in the opening quarter. Going 7-9 from beyond the arch with Daniel Smith and Aubrey Dorey-Havens each a perfect 3-3, Carleton built a 33-20 lead in a wild opening period.
The two teams settled into a more back-and-forth pace through the second and third quarters before Carleton would put a dagger in the Gaels in the fourth. Leading by 10 to start the fourth, Xavier Spencer took his game to another level and dropped 8 points in the fourth quarter to seal the victory. Five Ravens scored in double-digits while Noah Horobetz-Simpson recorded a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds.
Led by Horobetz-Simpson, the Ravens dominated on the glass outrebounding Queen's 45-30.
With the win, the Carleton Ravens will prepare for a rematch with the Ottawa Gee-Gees at the Capital Hoops Classic on Friday, February 7 at the Arena at TD Place.
