OTTAWA - The Carleton Ravens men's basketball team will enter the playoffs on a three-game losing streak following a pair of losses on the road over the Family Day weekend.
The Ravens opened the weekend losing a nail-biter to the Queen's Gaels. Despite outscoring the Gaels in the fourth quarter the Ravens dropped the decision 85-81. Carleton started well shooting 40% in the first quarter but turned the ball over 6 times and trailed by one at the break.
The Gaels scored 27 points in the middle quarters and led by 7 after 30 minutes. Rookie AJ Osman led the Ravens with 5 points in the second quarter. He would finish the night with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. In the third, Daniel Smith was 4-5 shooting as he led all players with 9 points in the quarter.
A wild back-and-forth final ten minutes saw Carleton cut a six-point Gaels lead as low as 1 point in the final seconds before Luka Syllas drained a pair of free throws to seal the evening.
On Saturday night, Xavier Spencer and Zubair Seyed went head-to-head in a thriller. As time expired, Spencer's game-high 24 points weren't enough as Carleton fell 71-61 to the Ridgebacks.
Ontario Tech finished the first quarter up four with Seyed scoring 10 points. After Spencer had 7 points for the Ravens in the first, Emanuel Milon had 8 points and 3 rebounds in the second to draw Carleton even at the break.
The Ridgebacks built a six-point lead in the third quarter before Carleton cut the lead to one at the end of the period. Spencer led the Ravens fourth-quarter charge with 9 points but Carleton went cold from the field shooting 23.6% as Tech pulled away for the victory.
Despite the losing streak, Carleton remains the #6 seed in the OUA and will host a round one playoff matchup on Wednesday night.
