OTTAWA (Feb. 2, 2025) — The Carleton Ravens men's hockey team is now in must-win territory after falling 4-1 to the Ottawa Gee-Gees at home on Sunday night. After Carleton was the aggressor for the opening ten minutes, it was the Gee-Gees who opened the scoring when David Lafrance beat Steven Bacovsky to make it 1-0. The two teams then skated through a tightly contested first and second period, with each team going 0-for-2 on the power play in the middle frame, setting up a critical third period for the Ravens.
With McGill picking up a point earlier in the day after a loss in the longest shootout in OUA history, the Ravens needed a win to keep pace in the OUA standings. But it was the Gee-Gees who struck first in the third period. Bradley Chenier scored 54 seconds into the frame, and Mitchell Martin added his third of the season less than four minutes later, putting the Ravens behind by three.
Carleton would finally get on the board when a hopeful play from Will Collins landed perfectly on the stick of Braeden Virtue, who made no mistake and scored his third in the last two weeks to pull the Ravens within two. Carleton pressed hard to cut the lead in half late in the period, but were called for too many men on the ice and found themselves shorthanded with five minutes to play. After successfully killing off the Gee-Gees' advantage, the Ravens pulled Bacovsky in search of a last-ditch effort, but instead surrendered an empty-net goal.
The Ravens now head on the road for their final four games of the regular season, needing to win out in order to keep their playoff hopes alive.
