OTTAWA - The Carleton Ravens men's hockey season ended on Saturday afternoon as their third-period comeback fell short. Despite significant pressure late, the Ravens lost 3-2 to the Waterloo Warriors, ending their season on a three-game losing streak.
The Ravens' Saturday loss came following a 7-6 overtime loss on Friday against Laurier. Carleton trailed 2-1 after twenty minutes on Friday night before the Golden Hawks jumped out to a 5-2 lead after two periods of play.
Madoka Suzuki kickstarted the Ravens' rally in the third, scoring his sixth of the year, before Reese Belton notched his thirteenth to make it a one-goal game. Will Collins tied the game midway through the third, but Laurier took back the lead just 1:38 later.
Carleton wasted little time, with Oliver Castleman tying the game 36 seconds later to send a wild contest to overtime. Evan Benwell scored on the 100th shot of the night in overtime to finally seal the evening and send Carleton across town to face the Warriors on a two-game losing streak.
Saturday started no better for the Ravens, with Waterloo taking a 1-0 lead through the opening 20 minutes before scoring twice in the second to extend the advantage to three. The Ravens looked to rally in the third when Alex Johnston unloaded a power play marker before Nolan Seed ripped home his fifth of the year to make it a one-goal game. Seed's goal came off an assist from Nick McCarry, who recorded his 24th assist, which tied him for fourth all-time in assists in a single season.
With their season closing on their second lengthy losing streak of the year (0-6-1), the Ravens miss the playoffs for the second consecutive season after making the post-season in fifteen straight years.
