Members of the Carleton Ravens community were front and center at the 2024 Ottawa Sports Awards on Wednesday night collecting eight awards.
The Ravens women's basketball team were the big winners on the evening, the 2024 OUA and U SPORTS Champions were named Female Team of the Year and Basketball Team of the Year. This marked the second time the women's basketball program received Female Team of the Year after winning the title in 2018.
Head coach Dani Sinclair took home the Female Coach of the Year prize. Sinclair's award marks the first time a female Ravens coach has won the award. It's the second time a Ravens women's basketball head coach has won an Ottawa Sports Award for coaching after Taffe Charles captured the Male Coach of the Year prize in 2017 for his work with the women's program.
The Ravens were also among 52 championship teams, with recognition paid to women's basketball, women's Nordic ski, and baseball. Former Ravens women's rugby star Maya Addai was named Rugby Athlete of the Year for the second time. Addai won the award in 2019 as a member of the Ravens. In 2024, Addai made her international debut with Rugby Canada.
Competitive club athletes Owen Nicholls (Curling) and Owen Daigeler (Ultimate) were also named Athlete of the Year for their sports. Nicholls led Team Ontario No. 2 to the 2024 U18 Canadian National Championships title. Daigeler of the Senior Open National Champion Ottawa Phoenix was named tournament MVP and was selected to Team Canada's U20 Open roster for the 2024 World Junior Ultimate Championships, winning bronze.
