OTTAWA - Carleton Ravens Nordic skiers Maya Abraham and Isabella Pighin have been named to the Cross Country BC roster for the National Cup in Kiruna, Sweden March 25 - April 6, 2025.
Both racers were chosen for the team based on recent Canada Points List standings which include last seasons nationals - where Maya finished fifth in the U18 Girls 7.5km skate. Abraham from Nelson, BC, has been a BC Team athlete since 2024 after spending 3 seasons on the BC Development Squad from 2021-24.
“I’m so excited to go to Sweden," Maya told GoRavens. "I'm super stoked to travel with my team from back home and experience a place where the caliber of racing is so high. Making an international B-tour has been one of my goals for about three years. I’m really looking forward to experiencing a different culture especially Swedish pastries and candy!”
Her Ravens teammate, Isabella Pighin (Vernon, BC) has followed a similar career trajectory, joining BC Team in 2024 after beginning with the development squad in 2021.
"I’m super excited to go to Europe for the first time ever. I’ve always wanted to go to Sweden, so this is literally a dream come true," Pighin told GoRavens. "I’ve been targeting this since the trip was announced in September. I'm excited to immerse myself in a new culture and to race at new venues.”
Before heading to Sweden, the pair of Ravens were both named to the highly competitive Ravens women's roster for the upcoming OUA Championships in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario in late February.
