OTTAWA (Feb. 7, 2025) - The Carleton Ravens women's basketball team erased a 14-point first-quarter deficit to capture a 58-55 victory and their fourth consecutive Capital Hoops Classic win on Friday night.
The Ravens opened on the wrong foot, falling behind 19-7 in the opening quarter. Carleton struggled to find a rhythm and would shoot only 18.8%, including a difficult 2-for-16 from three-point range.
The Ravens found their stride and outscored the Gee-Gees in the second quarter, in part because of success at the foul line. Despite some success, Carleton trailed by 11 at the half.
Jacqueline Urban led the Ravens in scoring in the first half with 6 points and 6 rebounds. Natsuki Szczokin led all scorers in the opening twenty minutes with 9 points.
Carleton kept the momentum going into the third as Kyana-Jade Poulin (Montreal, Que.) and Jacqueline Urban (Ancaster, Ont.) nailed threes in the opening two minutes to shrink the Ottawa lead. Poulin would add another pair of threes in the back end of the quarter as Carleton cut the lead to 6.
Jacqueline Urban opened the fourth quarter with four points in the first minute to cut the lead to two before Poulin drained her fourth three of the evening to give Carleton their first lead of the night.
The Ravens would continue to rain threes in the fourth, with Poulin finishing the night with a career-high six deep balls and Dorcas Buisa (Gatineau, Que.) hitting a dagger with 4:13 to play to extend the lead to eight.
Buisa would put the game out of reach with a perfect trip to the foul line in the final seconds after Victoria Brideau made it close, securing the victory.
