OTTAWA - The Carleton Ravens women's basketball team has made history again, wrapping up their second undefeated regular season with a series of dominant performances. This remarkable achievement sets the stage for an exciting playoff run as the Ravens aim to defend their OUA title.
The women's team impressed over the weekend dropping the Queen's Gaels and Ontario Tech Ridgebacks with wins of 30 or more.
Four Ravens scored double-digit points on Friday night despite no one playing over 26 minutes as the Ravens beat Queen's 71-41. Jacqueline Urban had a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double as she continued her dominant season.
Carleton held the Gaels to 22.2% shooting while holding them to just 15 points in the second half. With the win Friday, the Ravens notched their tenth win by 20 or more points on the season.
Carleton wasn't satisfied with ten big wins, the two-time defending champions finished their perfect regular season Saturday by jumping out to a 22-14 lead in the opening quarter on Saturday. Behind six points from Kyana-Jade Poulin and Tatyanna Burke in the first. Poulin stayed red-hot for the Ravens leading all scorers with 20 points despite playing just 22 minutes.
The Ravens went deep into their bench playing all twelve of their players with rookies shining bright. Nathalie Francis recorded 10 points and 6 rebounds and Abany Deng added 6 points and 8 rebounds.
The Ravens' impressive season was marked by many team and individual records.
Jacqueline Urban's 189 rebounds are the fifth-most in modern program history, while her 111 field goals tied for tenth most all-time. Dorcas Buisa's 93 assists were the second most in the program's modern era and her 57 steals are fourth most. Tatyanna Burke also sprinkled her name throughout the program records with several single-game performances that put her in the top ten.
Rookie Nathalie Francis recorded the sixth most points by a rookie and the third most blocks as she introduced herself to the OUA.
The powerful Ravens line-up heads into the playoffs with home court guaranteed as they look to run it back. The quest to keep the Critelli begins on Saturday when the Ravens host the winner of McMaster and Western.
