OTTAWA (Mar. 13, 2025) - Carleton Ravens men's hockey's standout recruit Giovanni Morneau has been named the OUA East Rookie of the Year.
The Ottawa product returned triumphantly to the capital this season after a successful major junior career in the QMJHL. Morneau, who played minor hockey for the Jr. 67s and Rockland Nats U18 teams, lit up the OUA scoring a team-high 33 points.
In an eight-game stretch mid-season, Morneau led the Ravens with 12 points, including a brilliant game-winner at the 2024 Colonel By Classic. Morneau's 15 goals and 9 power play assists led all OUA rookies. Morneau tied for fourth in conference point scoring and top ten in goals.
Morneau is the first Ravens player to earn the Rookie of the Year award since Jake Smith collected the honour in 2019. Morneau is the fourth winner in program history alongside Smith, Brett Welychka (2016) and Mitch Porowski (2013).
Tied for fourth in the OUA scoring race, Ravens forward Nick McCarry was also honoured by the OUA, named a Second-Team All-Star. The Spokane Chiefs graduate battled an ankle injury in the first half of the season to set career highs in assists and points. After starting the season with four points on opening weekend McCarry would tally three assists in a game three times pacing his way to tie for fourth most assists in a single season in modern program history.
