MBB | Ravens Dispatch of Redbirds

MONTREAL – The Carleton Ravens were back in Quebec on Saturday evening for a preseason match-up against the McGill Redbirds. After spending most of the first twelve minutes behind or tied the Ravens pulled away in the second quarter on route to a 63-39 victory.

The Ravens started the game shooting only 25%, before finishing the game shooting 32.2% from the field and 30.4% from behind the arc while holding the Redbirds to 21%.

After trailing 14-12 at the end of the first quarter, the Ravens were led in the second quarter by Connor Vreeken (Kingston, Ont.), Grant Shephard (Kelowna, B.C.) and Cordell Veira (Toronto, Ont.) who each scored five points as the Ravens took a 33-20 lead into the half.

Third-year guard Aiden Warnholtz (Ottawa, Ont.) would keep the Ravens momentum going to start the second half draining two three-pointers in the first 2:09 as the Ravens would outscore the Redbirds 21-10 in the quarter. Warnholtz would add six of the Ravens’ nine points in the final frame as Carleton would finish off McGill for the 24-point victory.

The Ravens had a balanced attack against the Redbirds, with ten players all factoring in the scoring. While Warnholtz led the Ravens with 14 points in 24 minutes, Vreeken and Shephard both contributed 11, while Shephard also had a game-high 9 rebounds. On the defensive side of the ball, Cordell Veira had five steals to go along with five defensive rebounds in 24 minutes.
