EDMONTON - Carleton Ravens forward Gabriel Bitar has signed a professional contract with FC Edmonton of the CPL.
Bitar becomes the second Ravens player from last season's U SPORTS silver medalists to sign a professional contract this off-season.
One of five Ravens to ever be named a U SPORTS All-Canadian twice, the 2017 OUA East MVP and Rookie of the Year, the Ottawa striker was previously selected in the CPL-U SPORTS Draft in both 2019 and 2020 by Cavalry FC. The 23-year-old also had a brief stint in 2021 with Lebanese Premier League club Al Ansar.
With 40 career goals, Bitar finished just three back of Ravens Hall of Famer Mike Lanos for the club's all-time scoring record. His impressive 7 career goals at the U Sports National Championship tournaments only further cemented his legacy as one of the greatest strikers to come through the program.
"Gaby has been a transformational player in our program the past four seasons," said Head Coach Kwesi Loney. "He has consistently been a top performer at both the provincial and national level. It's been a joy watching him compete as a Raven; his influence will have ripples effects for years to come. We thank him for his service and wish him all the best as an alumnus in the next chapter of his career."
