Brian Hedges played defensive tackle on Carleton's Football Ravens for five seasons, from 1970-71 to 1974-75, and he captained the team in his final two years. He was twice a Conference All-Star (1972 and 1974) and he was named a CIAU All-Canadian in 1972. Under his captaincy, the Ravens made the conference play-offs in 1975. He received the Doug Banton Award in 1973 (honoured for the most dedicated athlete on the football team) and the Jack Vogan Award (outstanding graduating male athlete award) in 1974. Brian Hedges went on to the Canadian Football League where he played for four years with the Ottawa Rough Riders, during which time the Riders won the Grey Cup in 1976.
