Denis Schuthe enjoyed an outstanding basketball career at Carleton. As a member of Carleton's championship team in the Ottawa-St. Lawrence Intercollegiate Athletic Association in 1967-68, he was named League All-Star. In the same year, he was chosen Canadian Interuniversity Athletic Union National Championship Tournament All-Star, and Carleton's Male Athlete of the Year. The following year, Denis was named a Canadian Basketball Coaches' Association First Team All-Star. In his graduating year, Carleton awarded him both the Jack Vogan Trophy as the Outstanding Graduating Male Athlete and the Doug Banton Award (for putting team before self). Statistically Denis is fourth in career rebounds (923); ninth in all-time scoring (1,602); and first in most rebounds in a single game (29). Denis also received the Associated Canadian Travellers' Award for amateur basketball in Ottawa.
