In 2022, Kevin Shields joined the Ravens from the nearby Nakkertok Nordic Ski Club where he is Junior Team Lead Coach.
In his first season as head coach the Ravens swept the women's OUA competition claiming all six women's individual medals and both the gold and silver in the team event. On the men's side, the Ravens finished second overall.
Shields joins the Ravens with over 25 years of experience leading Nordic skiing programs having previously coached with Nakkertok, Ski Fit North Western Ontario, Lappe Nordic Ski Club and the Waterloo Region Nordic Sports Club. From 2011-2013 Shields was also the Head Coach of the University of Waterloo’s Cross Country and Track team.
Currently completing his Master of Coaching from the University of Alberta, Shields is a teacher and CCD-L2C Training Coach with an established record of helping junior athletes prepare for provincial, national and international competitions.
“We are extremely excited to announce Kevin Shields as our new Nordic Ski Head coach,” said Dalton Myers, Assistant Director of High Performance Sport. “His experience as a standout student-athlete combined with his coaching experience makes him a great addition to our Carleton Ravens family. His commitment to strengthening and building a strong Nordic Ski program as well as developing student-athletes will benefit our program immensely.”
