Lavoie was Carleton University’s Male Athlete of the Year in 1973-1974 and again in 1974-1975. He was also OUA Champion in 1974-1975. After graduating in 1976, he went on to become a member of the national team and competed in the Olympics in 1976 and 1984. He also competed in the Pan American Games in 1975, 1979 and 1983, and the Commonwealth Games in 1974, 1978 and 1982.
After graduation from Carleton with Major in Mathematics (1975) and an Honours in Economics (1976), Marc travelled to the Université de Paris for his Masters and Doctorat (1979). Marc Lavoie is a Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Ottawa, where he started teaching in 1979 having published nearly 200 articles.
