As player, coach and alumnus, Pat O'Brien has contributed to Carleton's basketball program from his student days to the present. As a player, he was a member of two championship teams and Team Captain of the Ottawa-St.Lawrence Intercollegiate Athletic Association 1965-66 championship team. His all-time scoring average per game (13.5 points) is 10th overall and his total scoring record, 853, ranks 22nd at Carleton. He was Head Coach of the men's basketball team from 1976 to 1981, with a 67 percent winning record (third highest of all Ravens basketball coaches). Each of his teams made the playoffs, finishing in no lower than fourth place. Pat is a founding member of the Carleton University Ravens Basketball Alumni Association and has held several executive positions with this organization. For several years in the 1990s, he served on the University's Athletics Board.
