Rick Powers was an outstanding player at the local, provincial and national university levels. He played guard for five years at Carleton, 1977 to 81 and 82/83. Team awards include: most valuable player, 1980 and two-time male athlete of the year, 1980/81 and 1982/83. Team statistics impress. He was second all-time leading scorer in Raven history with a career point total of 2447 and an overall game average of 16.1 points. The scoring highlight of his career was scoring 44 points in a game against University of New Brunswick in 1982. His season average points per game peaked in 1980/81 with 23.6 p.p.g followed closely by 22.4p.p.g in in 1982/3. Rick was also a strong team player and was credited with a career total of 344 assists. At the provincial level, Rick was a three-time OUAA (Ontario University Athletic Association) all - star for the years 1979/80, 1980/81 and 1982/3. He graduated ranked fifth in the OUAA and was ranked third in the nation in his fourth year.
