OTTAWA - Former Carleton Ravens football player Jay Dearborn has been nominated for the Winter Olympics as a member of the men's crew with Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton.
Dearborn, of Yarker, Ontario, began training with Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton in 2019 while continuing to pursue a professional football career. Today the Saskatchewan Roughriders defensive back joins fellow CFL player Samuel Giguere, and alternate Cyrus Gray on route to China.
The 34th player in Ravens football history to play in the CFL, Dearborn has been balancing professional football with the rigors of competing on the world circuit. After setting a CFL Combine record with a 41” vertical leap and becoming the first player in combine history to break 11 feet in the standing broad jump, Dearborn has been able to seamlessly transition his eye-popping leg strength to the frozen track.
In five appearances with Team Canada, this season Dearborn has three top-ten finishes including a fifth-place finish last weekend in a BMW IBSF World Cup event at the infamous sliding tracks in St. Moritz, Switzerland.
