OTTAWA – The Carleton Ravens were back in the Ravens’ Nest Sunday afternoon against the Bishop’s Gaiters. With powerful play on the offensive and defensive ends, from tipoff to the final buzzer, the Ravens defeated the Gaiters 103-50 to improve their preseason record to 3-1.
The Ravens started strong right from the opening tip won by Biniam Ghebrekidan (Gatineau, Que.). While the offense was solid from the Ravens, the real show was on the defensive end as they held the Gaiters to just 19.4% from the field and 12.5% from behind the arc. The first quarter was forceful from the Ravens with strong ball movement, smart plays and a good pace as they took a 25-12 lead.
The Ravens defense continued to be a problem for the Gaiters in the second as they only put up 7 points in the quarter. Alain Louis (Montreal, Que.) found his rhythm in the second quarter putting up 11 points with a big three to end the quarter and Elliot Bailey (Horsham, UK) added another 6 points in the quarter. The Ravens defense held a tough throughout establishing a 53-19 lead over the Gaiters at the half.
Alain Louis (Montreal, Que.) continued to facilitate on both ends of the floor in the second half as he tallied a team-high 22 points and 6 assists and played consistent defense. He was a perfect 6 for 6 from the field and 2 for 2 from behind the arc for the game. Despite the Gaiters strong push in the third, the Ravens still outscored them 30-20 and ended the quarter with an 83-39 lead.
Grant Shephard (Kelowna, B.C.) capped off the game with a great fourth quarter, putting up 8 points in the quarter to finish off the game with 13 points. The Ravens victory was a complete team effort that consisted of strong play on both ends of the floor. The Ravens defense finished the game with 16 assists, 5 steals and forced 13 turnovers.
