WINNIPEG -Valour FC today announced that the club has signed Ravens standout rookie Matteo de Brienne.
de Brienne joins Valour FC after scoring seven goals in his first year with Carleton earning OUA East Rookie of the Year honours and being named to the U SPORTS All-Rookie Team.
The Ottawa product registered seven goals in 2021, including three in a playoff-clinching game against Trent on October 29. The skilled rookie from the Vancouver Whitecaps Academy showed a veteran-like ability to punish defences. Fitting right in alongside perennial award nominees and all-stars on the Ravens’ roster, de Brienne, who also played with Atletico Ottawa in 2020, slotted in for nine of his team’s fixtures in his debut campaign with the OUA squad.
At the U SPORTS National Championship at Carleton University, de Brienne’s 19th minute goal provided the Ravens an early lead in the national championship game. Though a victory was not to be, de Brienne performed valiantly throughout the tournament earning the attention of fans and scouts alike.
“I’m happy to see Matteo taking the next step in his playing career,” said Ravens Head Coach Kwesi Loney. “He’s deserving of this opportunity, a hardworking player, with the ability to impact games on multiple levels. I look forward to seeing his growth.”
