Kingston, ONT – Queen’s Gaels advance to NCWP with wins over Ottawa, Carleton in Regional Qualifier

Queen’s Women’s Water Polo earned their place in the 2021 NCWP Water Polo Championship at the University of Toronto on Saturday, Dec. 4 with a perfect 2-0 record at the Eastern
Regional Qualifier at ARC Pool in Kingston, Ont. Sunday. The Ottawa Gee-Gees were second with a 1-1 record and Carleton Ravens finished third, going winless on the day.
The Gaels entered the weekend winless in exhibition play having lost to the Ravens once and Gee-Gees twice. In the past two seasons the Gaels have dominated season play and Ottawa and Carleton have found success in the playoffs.
Queen’s beat Ottawa 9–8 in the first game of the day, having to go to a shootout before Sydney Hutchinson scored on the final shot of the opening round. That was followed by a 10-6 victory over 2019 Silver Medalist Carleton in the evening match where Hutchinson scored a game-high seven goals. Hutchinson lead all Gaels scorers with nine on the weekend and Sid Chard added four over the day.
In the second game of the day, the Gee-Gees beat their crosstown rivals 15-12. Leading the scoring for Ottawa was Becca Keough with eight and Jane Howes with six. Leading scorers for the Ravens were Valeria Rojas and Alicia Morehouse with six goals each.
