OTTAWA – The Carleton Ravens varsity council was busy in 2021, wrapping up the year by spreading holiday spirit throughout the Ottawa community.In November, the Varsity Council collected 2 full boxes of non-perishable food items Ottawa Food Bank from the student-athlete community. In December, they raised $885 from varsity teams to purchase 30 toys for the Boys and Girls Club as part of the Angel Tree Program.“Varsity council believes it is important to be involved in the community to give back to our supporters and build a meaningful relationship between the community and Carleton athletes,” said Chloe Doherty, co-chair for the Community Outreach Sub-Committee within Varsity Council. “Especially around the holidays, it is a great time for all the teams to come together and give back to our wonderful community. Overall, we want to help in any way we can and inspire young kids to follow their dreams.”Throughout the year, the Community Outreach Sub-Committee, co-chaired by Doherty (women’s soccer) and Rachel Getz (rugby) plan and coordinate community outreach activities, which include fundraisers, engagement programs and more on behalf of Carleton’s student-athletes.
