Welland, Ont. – The Carleton Ravens rowing team claimed three medals at the 2021 OUA Championship on Saturday in Welland, Ontario. Led by an impressive solo performance by Brendan Edge (Arnprior, Ont.) who claimed bronze in the men’s lightweight men’s single the young Ravens team proved to be scrappy competitors throughout the day.
A newcomer to the Ravens team, but no stranger to his longtime coach Ed Fournier, Edge gave it his everything among stiff competition to earn his spot on the podium.
After an injury forced Austin Krystek from the heavyweight men’s coxed four David Damas would step up and row in the stroke seat with Scott Leslie, Conor Nicell, Josh Moffat, and cox Chris Breedy to win bronze. As the Ravens shifted seats, Nicell also stepped up to the challenge, suiting up to join the Heavyweight boat as they finished just short of the silver medal, finishing third by only 2 seconds.
The Ravens would claim a third medal when Brendan McIntrye and Owen Powell won bronze in the lightweight men’s pair.
Ravens team captain Meghan Jolley completed her comeback from an injury that saw her scratch from the Brock Invitational earlier this month earning a personal best in the lightweight women’s single claiming a sixth place finish.
The Ravens are back on the water in Welland this weekend at the 2021 Canadian University Rowing Championships hosted by Brock University.
