OTTAWA – Following a year off, the Ravens have come back hard, ready to compete at their pre-pandemic level. As they enter this weekend’s OUA Regional Championship at Queen’s University, the team has worked hard for the past twelve weeks and is ready to create good results in a difficult field.
After a pair of close games against uOttawa, the Ravens are ready to take their preseason experiences against UofT and the Canadian National team and put it to the test.
Led by three central national team players in Andrei Djukic, David Lapins and Leandro Velazquez along with club players Quinn Davies and Spence Thompson all playing a central role in the team, the Ravens are poised to battle their way back to the top of the OUA.
Andrei Djukic is star among the Ravens, having been identified as a player to watch for the national team program, Djukic will be a vital member of a Ravens team looking to find their way back to the top of the podium for the first time in five seasons.
David Lapins is a former member of the Canadian National team. Now completing his Masters in Geography, Lapins last competed for Canada at the FINA Men’s Water Polo World League Intercontinental Cup 2019, helping to earn a bronze medal. Lapins is a senior leader on the Carleton team who will be expected to play a central role in the team’s drive to return to the top of the podium.
On a pair of close pre-season games against uOttawa…
“Like in previous years, our goal is always to compete in the OUA Championship, but with close results against uOttawa in the previous two weeks we’ve got some work to do to ensure that happens.”
On the core of the team…
“We’ve got a number of players who were first-year players last year that will be a big part of our club this year.”
On Playing Team Canada in the Pre-Season…
“For a lot of these players, this is their opportunity to play against some of the best in the country. It’s an opportunity many of them won’t otherwise get to experience.”
