Laval, Quebec – The Carleton Ravens are off to a hot start under head coach Dani Sinclair. After joining the Ravens in the midst of the pandemic it’s been a long wait for everyone involved, but the Ravens wasted little time getting started over the weekend in Laval. In their first action in over 600 days, the Ravens would meet the host Laval Rouge et Or at the Tournoi Rouge et Or.
After leading through the first half, the Ravens found their slim lead slip away in the third quarter, trailing by 3 heading into the final frame. After a clutch three from Madison Reid (Carleton Place, Ont.) the two teams would trade leads until Kali Pocrnic (Oakville, Ont.) would steal a Lea Dominique rebound, laying it in to give the Ravens the team’s final lead. The team would tack on five more points down the stretch, squeezing past the hosts 77-70. In game one, Reid would lead the Ravens with 21 points in 34 minutes, while Pocrnic and Tatyanna Burke (Winona, Ont.) would provide 19 each.
The Ravens faced a different challenge in game two on Saturday when they took on the Bishop’s Gaiters. Trailing 11-9 just halfway through the first quarter the Ravens would score off a Tatyanna Burke steal and layup and, after making some substitutions, would lead by five at the end of the first. The Ravens would continue to chip away growing their lead slowly over the remaining three quarters taking the match-up by 33 with a 92-59 victory over the Gaiters.
The Ravens were once again led on offence by Madison Reid who had 25 points in 30 minutes. Emma Kiesekamp (Merrickville, Ont.) chipped in with a double-double of her own pulling down 11 rebounds to go along with her 14 points.
