OTTAWA – With a pair of back-to-back home wins the Ravens women’s basketball team closes the books on their preseason with a perfect 6-0 record.
On Friday night the Carleton Ravens kicked off their final weekend of the preseason by playing host to the Bishop’s Gaiters. In a tight affair the Ravens jumped out to an 8 point lead in the first quarter and battled back-and-forth throughout the night holding on for the 11-point victory. In a competitive game that saw the two teams combine for 24 fouls through the middle two quarters, the Ravens never let up on their lead while shooting 40% from beyond the arc.
Emma Huff (Chelsea, Que.) led the way for the Ravens on Friday night, scoring 20 points, including shooting 4 for 7 from deep. Tatyanna Burke (Winona, Ont.) chipped in on both sides of the ball with a double-double scoring ten while pulling down 12 rebounds.
On Saturday afternoon it was more of the same from the Ravens. After falling behind 23-19 in the first quarter, the Ravens would storm back outscoring the UQAM Citadins 55-32 through the middle two quarters on route to a 96-68 victory. Tatyanna Burke had her second double-double in as many days while five other Ravens all scored double-digit points despite the team shooting only 6 for 22 from downtown. Emma Kiesekamp (Merrickville, Ont.) and Madison Reid (Carleton Place, Ont.) led the way for the Ravens with 18-points each.
The Ravens will look to transition their strong preseason play into points in the standings next weekend when they welcome fans back to The Nest. The Ravens open the 2021-22 season on Friday, November 5, when the Nipissing Lakers visit Carleton University for the McKeen’s Metro Glebe Home Opener Weekend. Select tickets for the weekend matchups are still available.
