TORONTO – The Ravens bounced back from their first loss for a big win against the York Lions. Carleton beat the Lions 100-68 for the team’s first 100-point game since January 20th, 2018.
Coach Dani Sinclair was elated as she ran the Ravens bench. “I thought they were really confident at the offensive end. I’m happy for them as players and as individuals, we had some good offensive performances,” said Sinclair on the team’s achievement. Sinclair promised an improvement on the team’s defensive strategy, and she delivered. “Their focus from start to finish was defence. And they go hand in hand like we when things opened up for us at the offensive end it was because we were able to get stops,” said Sinclair. The team worked together to prevent their opponents from entering the key.
The Ravens dominated the court during the first quarter, Teresa Donato (Ottawa, Ont.) scored two of her four field goals during the game and was quick in transition keeping the York defence scrambling. After last night’s loss, the Raven’s focused on maintaining a solid defence and worked hard, preventing the Lions from having much success entering the key. The Ravens smothering defence led them to a 53-25 first half lead.
The Ravens kept their fierce energy during the last two quarters. The Raven’s kept the ball moving, preventing the Lions from coming back. Rookie player Kinly Rice (Douglas, Ont.) showed off her skills during the fourth quarter, pressuring the Lions and finishing the afternoon off strong in their last regular-season game of 2021. Carleton will return in the new year to play against their rivals—the uOttawa Gee-Gees. The game will take place at Montpetit Hall on January 8th, 2022.
