OTTAWA, Ontario – Carleton Ravens women’s soccer is pleased to announce the recruitment of Mya Van Haaster for the upcoming season.
Q: Why did you decide to attend Carleton?
I chose to attend Carleton because of its academic and athletic reputation. Carleton is a great school for business which is the program that I want to go into. After spending time talking with Dom about the school and team, I decided that it was a good fit for me.
Q: What part about playing for the Ravens soccer team are you most looking forward to?
I am most looking forward to playing at the university level with new teammates and a passionate coaching staff where I can improve my skills.
Q: How did you get started in soccer?
My older brothers were soccer players, and my parents enjoyed the sport too. I started playing when I was 3 and loved it ever since. When I was 6, I joined a boy’s academy and that’s when my drive for the sport started.
Q: What is your style of play?
I like to say that my style of play is aggressive and technical. I tend to focus on possession and ball control.
Q: Is there a professional soccer player that you model your game after?
I have always admired Arjen Robben for his speed and ball control especially.
Q: Describe your strengths and some areas for improvement:
Strengths: reading the field, movement on and off the ball, and creating plays
Areas for improvement: recognizing to take the shot when the opportunity is there and trying not to force as many passes
Q: Which academic program will you be studying and why is that of interest to you?
I will be studying business, most likely marketing. I have taken business courses all throughout high school and enjoyed each of them. I want to go into marketing because it is a fast-paced industry and can lead to a wide range of careers.
Q: What extra-curricular activities do you enjoy?
In my spare time I enjoy working out and playing other sports such as football, basketball, and volleyball with friends and family. I also spend a lot of my time at work.
