After two defeats against Queen’s to open the season, the Carleton Ravens women’s soccer team got their first point of the season in a Friday evening 1-1 draw with the Royal Military College (RMC) Paladins.
Early in the first half, the Ravens found themselves in a familiar position trailing 1-0 having given up the first goal. RMC rookie Emma Hawken scored her first of her U Sports career, giving RMC the lead.
Shortly after, the Carleton Ravens responded to even it at 1-1 at halftime. Carleton midfielder Raquel Costa Correia (Pickering, Ont.) picked up not only her first goal of the season, but the team’s first as well.
Coming off a 2-0 road defeat against Queen’s in their previous match, the Ravens looked determined to leave Kingston with a positive result. The second half saw chances go both ways, but the match ended as a 1-1 draw.
Carleton and RMC will meet again Sunday Oct. 3 at the Ravens’ Perch at 1:00 p.m. The two teams are tied in the standings, each with one draw and two losses, making Sunday’s clash crucial to the Ravens’ season on matchday 4 of 10.
