OTTAWA (Feb. 7, 2025) - A difficult third quarter was the difference on Friday night as the Ottawa Gee-Gees took the 2025 Capital Hoops Classic men’s game 79-66.
The Ravens took an early lead popping out to a 10-2 lead before the Gee-Gees climbed their way back. A ten-point Ottawa run late in the quarter would put them ahead 16-14 after ten minutes.
Despite a long three from Marjok Okado (Calgary, Alta.) Ottawa would use another 10-3 run to pull ahead by 9. Nelson Cilien (Ottawa, Ont.) and Dragon Stajic would trade threes in the back end of the quarter before Okado hit a pair of late jumpers to cut the lead to two at the half.
Xavier Spencer (Calgary, Alta.) opened the third with a three to give Carleton the lead for the first time since there was 2:40 remaining in the first. The lead wouldn’t last long as the Gee-Gees heated up with Jacques-Mélaine Guemeta and Justin Ndjock-Tadjore heating up to extend the lead to 16 by the end of the third.
The Ravens would play a more level fourth quarter, but ball control issues got the better of them as the Gee-Gees held on for their second-consecutive Capital Hoops victory.
Xavier Spencer led all Ravens with 19 points while Nelson Cilien chipped in with 14 points and a team-high 9 rebounds in the loss.
