Ravens Stars Recognized at 2026 Varsity Banquet
It was a night of celebration as Carleton Ravens athletes, coaches and volunteers received awards at the 2026 Varsity Banquet on Thursday.
OTTAWA (Mar. 27, 2026) – It was a night of celebration as Carleton Ravens athletes, coaches and volunteers received awards at the 2026 Varsity Banquet on Thursday. Carleton Athletics and members of the Carleton community spent an evening at the Infinity Centre recognizing exceptional athletic and community achievement.
At this year's awards, basketball swept the Athlete of the Year and Rookie of the Year awards. Aubrey Dorey-Havens was named as Male Athlete of the Year and Kyana-Jade Poulin took home the Ruth Coe Memorial Award for Female Athlete of the Year. Ravens rookie Tyanne Matosas-Adderley won Female Rookie of the Year and Tyler Brown won Male Rookie of the Year.
Lauren Illman of women's soccer scored the award for Outstanding Graduating Female Athlete, leaving behind an impressive legacy with the women's soccer team. The first U SPORTS All-Canadian from women's soccer in 15 years, Illman was a top 10 goal scorer in the nation during her time at Carleton. Basketball star Marjok Okado earned the Jack Vogan Award as the Graduating Male Athlete of the Year, after securing three U SPORTS golds and one OUA gold medal during his time as a Raven.
Kevin Shields (Nordic ski) and Taffe Charles (basketball) shared the 2026 title of the Coach of the Year Award.
The 2026 Varsity Council Volunteer Award was awarded to Hannah Shields (Nordic ski) for her contributions above and beyond the expectations of her role with the team.
A new category, the Ravens Community Volunteer Award, recognized three student-athletes who demonstrated exceptional commitment to community service. Luigi Zagaria (football), Fatima Ramadan (rugby), and Chloe Lachance-Soulard (women's soccer) were presented with this inaugural award.
Female Athlete of the Year: Kyana-Jade Poulin (Basketball)
The Ruth Coe Memorial Award for Female Athlete of the Year was awarded to Kyana-Jade Poulin.
Kyana-Jade is an OUA silver medallist, won gold at the FISU Americas 3x3 Basketball championship, and finished fifth at the U SPORTS Championship. She has been named as an OUA First Team All-Star, U SPORTS Second Team All-Canadian and OUA athlete of the week. She is a Ravens team captain and had five of the top 20 regular-season single-game scoring performances in Ravens program history during the 2025-26 season.
With 436 points, she holds the Carleton record for most points in a single season. She also holds the Ravens record for the most field goals in a single season at 153. To top it off, Kyana-Jade set a new Capital Hoops women's scoring record with 28 points.
Male Athlete of the Year: Aubrey Dorey-Havens (Basketball)
A force on the Ravens basketball team, Aubrey Dorey-Havens was named as the 2026 Male Athlete of the Year. This season, he won the U SPORTS championship after earning silver at the OUA championship.
Aubrey is the U SPORTS Championship MVP and holds the U SPORTS championship record for the most three-point field goals in a gold medal game. He has been named as an OUA First Team All-Star and OUA Athlete of the Week.
He ranked fifth in the U SPORTS regular season for three-point field goals. Notably, he has twice tied the program record of nine for the most three-point field goals in a game.
Coach of the Year: Kevin Shields (Nordic Ski) & Taffe Charles (Men's Basketball)
Voted a tie for the Pat O'Brien Award for Ravens Coach of the Year, this honour was awarded to head coach Taffe Charles of men's basketball and head coach Kevin Shields of women's Nordic skiing. Taffe, now a five-time champion, coached the Ravens men's basketball team to a U SPORTS Championship Gold Medal and OUA Silver Medal this year. Kevin was a guiding force to leading the women's Nordic ski team to their fourth consecutive OUA Nordic Skiing Championship in Shield's four-year tenure, while the men returned to the top of the podium, making it a clean sweep for the program.
Graduating Male Athlete of the Year: Marjok Okado (Basketball)
Marjok is finishing his time with the Ravens with three U SPORTS Championship Gold Medals, an OUA Championship Gold Medal, and one OUA Championship Silver Medal. A key player on the Ravens men's basketball team, he has 1,000 career points and was named to the OUA Third Team All-Star and OUA All-Rookie Team.
Graduating Female Athlete of the Year: Lauren Illman (Soccer)
Lauren's time playing as a Ravens is one that will be remembered. She was named to the U SPORTS Second Team All-Canadian, becoming the first women's soccer All-Canadian in 15 years. She was named as an OUA First Team and Second Team All-Canadian and ranked in the top three in OUA 2025 goals. In her seasons as a Raven, she had 25 career goals and 36 career points in 45 games.
Female Rookie of the Year: Tyanne Matosas-Adderley (Basketball)
Tyanne had a stellar season as a Raven, recording one of the best rookie seasons in program history with 177 points. She was named as an OUA All-Rookie and ranked in the top 10 in U SPORTS for three-pointers, points and field goals by a rookie this year.
Male Rookie of the Year: Tyler Brown (Basketball)
Tyler Brown had a winning rookie season, bringing home a USPORTS Championship Gold Medal and OUA silver medal as a member of the Ravens men's basketball team. He played in all 22 regular season games, with 303 minutes played. Tyler averaged 9.0 points per game in the Final 8 tournament.
Volunteer of the Year: Hannah Shields (Nordic Ski)
Hannah's dedication to the Nordic ski team over the past four years has been instrumental in the team's success. As a wax technician, she is up before dawn on race days and spends hours testing skis to ensure athletes have the best possible race experience. This year, Hannah stepped into the role of assistant coach, a volunteer position, and her holistic understanding of the many aspects of ski racing allowed her to be an impactful mentor. Hannah's hard work and dedication helped these athletes reach a level of success both on and off the trails that would not have been possible otherwise.
Ravens Community Volunteer Award: Luigi Zagaria, Fatima Ramadan & Chloe Lachance-Soulard
This inaugural award recognizes student-athletes who demonstrate exceptional commitment to community service by going above and beyond to strengthen the Ravens brand in the Ottawa community while fostering a strong sense of connection and belonging within the Ravens family at Carleton University. Luigi Zagaria (football), Fatima Ramadan (rugby) and Chloe Lachance-Soulard (women's soccer) exemplify this outstanding commitment to the Ravens and Ottawa community.
